Red Arrows...3D film
The Red Arrows 3D film is a unique live action ‘pilot’s eye view’ of the Red Arrows current display. It was produced in full high definition video from the backseat of one of the team’s Hawk aircraft and is the first time that such 3D images have been successfully shot.
To do so Metropolis had to develop novel stereoscopic camera and post production technology that is broadly applicable to many other aircraft types including single and dual seat fast jets.
For the ‘Reds’ 3D film the entire 25 minute display was filmed on location in Cyprus in May 2010 from various aircraft positions in the formation. It was edited down to a seven minute experience that takes best advantage of the Stargazer’s dynamic motion system performance.
A short introduction by Red 1, leader of the Red Arrows, prepares the audience for what they are about to experience and provides educational and technical information about the aircraft.
The Dolby surround audio includes jet engine ‘atmos’ together with a pilot commentary on each of the team’s most dramatic manoeuvres.
A special two minute version of the film was created in 2D to be shown in our ‘kiddie ride’ simulators for younger ‘would be’ pilots aged 2 to 7 years.
